This comprehensive class will teach students the basics of writing for and performing in a sketch comedy show similar to SNL, MadTV, Whitest Kids U Know, and Human Giant. You will learn to take those funny ideas and turn them into live sketch comedy show. Our sketch writing philosophy is similar to our Improv 101 structure.  Students will learn to write sketches with a clear focus and pattern.  Students will also learn to pitch their ideas, give feedback, and learn how to do basic staging.

Improv 101 is a recommended prerequisite to Sketch 101, but is not required for enrollment.

Students successfully completing Sketch 101 are recommend for inclusion in Sketch Workshop. Sketch Workshop is team of writers and performers that meet every Sunday to exchange ideas, give writing feedback, workshop new material, and rehearse for our monthly main stage sketch show, Secret Handshake Society.

Chris Emery
Chris is extremely excited to be a part of Sacramento Comedy Spot. It has always been his dream to perform comedy ever since he saw the Three Stooges when he was five. Other than comedy, Chris also loves beer, roast beef sandwiches, Batman, and smelling the inside of an empty Junior Mints box. It’s not glamorous, but it’s his life. Chris also teaches Improv 101 and is a Gordon Team coach.
