History of The Sacramento Comedy Spot By Brian Crall And Other Comedy Spot Company Members as they contribute
May 24, 2001- Perko's Cafe and Lounge Imagine Denny's with a dive bar attached. Welcome to Perko's Cafe and "Lounge" on Richards Blvd. It is now a mexican food restaurant. The Free Hooch Comedy Troupe takes the stage at Perko's to a sold out house of 100 people. The Lounge can hold maybe 70 people comfortably. People are everywhere. Tickets are $5.00. Patrons paid for their ticket outside the lounge at a folding table with a hand written sign on poster board.
The Original Cast of The Free Hooch Comedy Troupe includes Brian Crall, Angie Lebard, Jason Rossow, Rebecca FaGalde, Dan Fruge, Jeff Sloniker, and Jeff Heatherly. (Jeff Heatherly did not like the material in the show and sat out. He is actually the the first person to quit The Free Hooch. He would be gone after the first show.) The original line-up for the show:
Show #1- May 24, 2001 Porno Audition Scot Pollard The Technique Morgue Fat Boy Mouse Tattoo Mute Keanu Reeves Little Piggy Street Performer Dot Dance
March 2001- "Auditions" Still Students of the Theatre Department of CSU, Sacramento, Ron Dumonchelle, Colleen Griffiths, and Brian Crall are trying to think of a Production for Ron and Colleen's Production Company- Quarter Blue Productions. Their friend John Catching says they should do a sketch comedy show and says he likes the name- Free Hooch Comedy Troupe. They all agree and start to cast the show from Sac State Students. Even though John Catching coins the name he doesn't join Free Hooch. Fellow CSUS students Rebecca FaGalde and Jason Rossow are cast immediately without an audition. Angie LeBard is invited to join the group by Jason Rossow.
Rebecca tells her cousin Dan Fruge he should audition.
Jeff Sloniker finds out about auditions from one of our flyers. (Which would be know later as garage sale flyers.)
Auditions are held at Colleen's apartment. A two bedroom apartment underneath a Victorian Style home in downtown Sacramento. It was a dungeon and if downtown ever flooded, it would be the first to fill with water. It was always dark inside even during the brightest of days. Dan is cast- he had never done any acting, but he is excited and willing to do anything for the show. Jeff will not admit this, but at the end of the audition he storms out the door with his jeans around his ankles in his boxers. He is cast immediately.
To be honest, I don't know what we did for auditions. We didn't even know how to put on a sketch comedy show. I think we just talked to the people who wanted to be in the show. We hired everyone who auditioned. Luckily everyone was super talented.
