What types of shows can I see at the Comedy Spot?

Sacramento Comedy Spot features a wide variety of comedic styles, including improv and sketch comedy formats made famous in Chicago, Los Angeles, and New York, as well as stand-up comedy. Our stage is home to many local celebrity and amateur performers, and often hosts national headlining acts. Please check our calendar for upcoming shows and events.

Is there an age minimum to see a show at the Comedy Spot?

There is no minimum age requirement to see shows at the Comedy Spot, though our club, shows, and content are geared towards those ages 17+. Our shows should be considered PG13 or R-rated.

What is the seating configuration in the theater?

The Comedy Spot showroom is general admission row seating, no tables, with a capacity of 90. Seating is on a first-come, first-served basis.

Comedy on The Boardwalk... How does it work?

1. Check the online schedule and purchase your table reservation. Each paid table reservation includes one (1) table for up two (2) patrons and up to two (2) silent disco headphone rentals to enjoy the show.

Note: Prices vary per event. Seating is limited and table reservations should be purchased in advance. Individual ticket sales are not available at this time. Choice of table location is available on a first-come, first-served basis. Because of limited seating, tables for attendees not checked in by the start of the event will be resold. No refunds.

2. MASKS ARE TO BE WORN AT ALL TIMES, unless you are actively drinking or eating.

3. Checking In – Check in at the street-level podium upon arrival, where you will receive your headphones. You may then select any available table in our street seating area, or up on our elevated boardwalk, in front of the building. 

4. Beverages – A great selection of craft beers and non-alcoholic beverages are available for purchase before or during our shows. Order right from your table using your phone and our contactless system, and we’ll bring your items to you. No outside alcohol is permitted within the Comedy Spot service areas.

5. Food – The Comedy Spot does not have a kitchen or restaurant, but feel free to bring in your own food. Snacks will also be available for purchase from our bar. You can also visit our neighbor, Azul, and get 10% off your meal when you mention attending the Comedy Spot boardwalk show that night. (Reminder that only alcohol purchased from the Comedy Spot is permitted in our seating areas.)

6. Sit down and have a laugh! Please stay at your table so that we don’t spread cooties, a.k.a. coronavirus.

7. If you feel sick, stay home! 

How long are your shows?

With the exeption of special events, 7pm and 8pm shows run approximately 50 minutes. Our 9pm headlining shows run a little over an hour. 10:30 shows are 30 minutes. 

How do I receive my show/event tickets?

The Comedy Spot does not issue physical tickets for shows and events. When purchasing online, you can opt for electronic ticketing via text or email. Both options will generate a QR code that can be scanned at the door. The name tickets are purchased under will also be on a will-call list at the box office when you arrive.

What is your photo/video policy for shows?

Unless otherwise specified for a national act, all Comedy Spot shows are able to be photographed and recorded, for personal use, only. Using social media? Use hashtag #saccomedyspot to share with our community! If you are interested in commercial use of captured media, please contact us prior to attending.

Is the Comedy Spot wheelchair accessible?

The Comedy Spot is ADA compliant, with wheelchair access available at all entrances, and including the stage.

Do you accept credit cards?

We do accept all major credit cards online, at our box office, and at our bar. Go to our calendar and click on the show you want to see for a description and the option to buy tickets in advance.

Do you serve food or alcohol? Do you have a drink minimum?

There is a meal purchase requirement for comedy shows outside on our Boardwalk stage during COVID-19 restrictions. Click HERE to learn more.

We serve beer, featuring a great selection of local and craft brews. In addition, we sell small snacks, soda, water, and candy at the bar, along with Comedy Spot merchandise. We have NO drink or item minimum purchase requirements. Sacramento Comedy Spot is located inside the MARRS building, which hosts an array of restaurants. Visit our neighbors before or after shows. Where are you located, and where do I park?

We are located in Midtown’s MARRS building, at 1050 20th Street, Suite 130, in Sacramento (between J and K streets). Metered street parking is available in front of, and all around, the Comedy Spot. Please be mindful of varied time restrictions in different locations. Some are free after 6pm. There is also a parking garage open to the public on the weekends on 20th Street between K and L Streets. This website has some handy links to help you get into, and around, Midtown. –

Do you offer group sales?

We love large groups! We offer discounts for most of our Friday and Saturday main stage shows with an online purchase of 8 or more tickets, available during checkout. We have a wide variety of improv, stand-up, and sketch comedy shows. Before booking a large group for a performance, we encourage you to come by and see a desired show on your own. We might even offer a free ticket for you to sample a show and be sure it is the right fit for your group.

Can I rent the Comedy Spot venue for my event?

We do rent the Comedy Spot, during the day only, for meetings and other events. Please email if you are interested in renting the Comedy Spot.

Can I hire Comedy Spot performers for my event?

We offer performances for on-site and off-site events. Visit our Groups page for more information.

Do you offer team-building or workshop group sessions?

The Comedy Spot no longer hosts team building or workshop group sessions, but we know someone who does! Betsaida LeBron is a performer with the Comedy Spot who does just that sort of thing with ImprovEQ. Please send any emails or inquiries directly to that organization:

How do I get booked to perform stand-up?

All of our stand-up comedy events are handled internally. We currently do not accept unsolicited bookings.

Do you have an open mic?

We have an open mic two nights a week, every Sunday (7pm) and Monday (8pm). If you would like to perform, please be at the Comedy Spot 30 minutes before show time to sign up with the host. Each comedian gets 5 minutes and DOES NOT have to pay for the show. Comedians who bring a paying audience member will get on stage first.

How can I perform in an improv show at the Comedy Spot?

We only allow performers who have taken our improv classes to perform in our house improv shows. You must complete Improv 101Improv 201, and Improv 301 to be considered for a spot on one of our Harold teams. We cast all of our main stage shows from Harold performers. To be considered for our in-house sketch program, you must take Sketch 101.

What types of classes to you offer?

We offer long-form improv, stand-up, and sketch comedy classes and workshops. Go to our Comedy School page for descriptions and start dates.

I have taken improv classes elsewhere. Where do I start?

All listed prerequisites for advanced-level classes must be completed prior to registration. Every comedy school approaches their curriculum and philosophy differently. It is important, and beneficial, for you and your classmates to have the same level of Comedy Spot training and vocabulary. To begin your training with us, start at Improv 101.

Do you offer refunds on classes or shows?

There are no refunds on classes or shows. Class space is limited and reservations are final. Should you need to transfer to another start date, please contact us.
