Comedy Exchange - Sacramento Comedy Spot

This is a rescheduled event from the original February 10th date.

Plus 50¢ online service fee per ticket/registration.

Sketch Writing Workshop
10:00AM to 5:30PM | $180

Join Kevin McDonald of the Kids in the Hall for a one-day workshop at Sacramento Comedy Spot! Learn how to write sketches through improvisation – just like the Kids in the Hall used to do. But not only that! You will do a show that night with Kevin, in front of a real, live audience, performing the sketches you wrote that day. Exciting? Kevin thinks so. Of course, Kevin is very boring and thinks chairs are exciting.

Kevin will talk about the secrets of writing comedy sketches (hopefully their secrets and not lies) and teach you the Kids in the Hall process of coming up with an idea and turning it into a sketch through improvisational rehearsal. You will be performing and writing with Kevin supervising, all day. And that night, you put on a show with Kevin for the public.

Comedy Spot’s Improv 101 or Sketch 101 are recommended prerequisites for the workshop, but are not required. Evening performance admission is included with your registration fee.

What to bring: Materials for taking notes and 1-3 premises for a comedy sketch, such as “What if a guy had toasters for hands?” A break for lunch will be provided. Please bring your own lunch or money to purchase from one of our local neighbors.

Evening Performance
9PM | $15
Kevin McDonald of Kids in the Hall performs with Sacramento’s longest-running comedy group, Anti-Cooperation League, AND this show features sketches created earlier in the day by students in Kevin’s sketch comedy writing workshop. Stick around after the show for a Q&A about Kids in the Hall.

Ticket Policy: Your tickets will be held at will call. Tickets will be held under the name on the credit card used to purchase the tickets. No refunds. Unclaimed tickets will be released 5 minutes prior to show time.

Terms & Conditions

About our shows: We have many types of shows to appeal to a wide range of comedic tastes, and some styles that may be new to you. Our improv and sketch comedy shows are more like a play or other traditional theatre experience, rather than a stand-up show or nightclub atmosphere. Improv and sketch cast members do not interact with the audience during the performance. Before booking a large group for a performance, we encourage you to come by in advance and see a show on your own. We might even offer a free ticket for you to sample a show and be sure it is the right fit for your group. ALL SALES ARE FINAL. There are no refunds on classes or shows unless canceled or changed by the venue. Class space is limited, and reservations are final. Please provide a valid telephone number/email address at checkout so we can contact you, if needed. Should you need to transfer to another class start date, please email
